What is back buttering?

Thanks guys, I wasn't expecting such rapid response.
Would you say it's essential for constructing a wetroom?
Should I do it myself or would it be worth paying a pro?

The practice ' back buttering' is essential when using Porcelain or Natural stone tiles in my opinion.

As Stef said, there will be a professional near you who will be able to price this wetroom for you.
We have a dedicated 'I am looking for a Wall & Floor Tiler' section for this purpose.

I always maintain that back buttering is combing the back of tile and back skimming is when you use the flat blade of the trowel for a thin spread of addy. Maybe just me being pedantic though.

I wish I had time for toast, by time I've seen to dog, hens, fish, got kids up and ready for school I don't get time for any 🙁

I just came across this post today - I know Armen Tavy personally and agree with his method.
I invented a tool called the "Back Butter Buddy" http://www.primo-tools.com and have had a thread with discussion here before. The video shows it fitting onto a "standard" bucket. Unfortunately, is a standard size here in the USA. The BBB DOES NOT HAVE to fit onto a bucket to work just fine. We are still waiting to revise the BBB to fit your buckets in the UK. - Phil

I usually just hold tile with left hand and spread with right but away from my body like I'm making a pizza, I noticed Armen spreading in to his body, I'd have it all over me if I tried that. if larger than 30 x 30 then I improvise, usually one edge on floor and hold with hand.
