just found out today that there is no point using a 10mm, 12mm, 13mm square notched trowel on 60cm x 60cm. it should be a solid bed radius trowel. anything else is incorrect and this came from bal. coverage and compression is the reasons.

i would still use 10mm or 12mm notched trowel. never had any problems with these trowels and laid 1000's of metres. used ardex 7001 today on 6oox300 with 8mm trowel and got excellent coverage.

if you are laying 600x 300 tiles with an 8mm trowel, then you should not be laying tiles for a living. you need to get re trained and i mean that in a constructive way not insulting..

check out the pdf file on ardex 7001 which tells you to use 8mm notched trowel before you tell me i should give up tiling. it isnt me starting threads on how to spread adhesive or how to mark lines on floors if you are on your own. if you are a newbie fair do's but dont come on here telling people they shouldnt be tiling if you dont know what you are talking about.

If the tiles are flat enough, and the substrate is flat enough, there is nothing wrong with using 8mm square notched on 600x300mm tiles. Really. It's about the coverage/contact between the tiles and the substrate. If it's full or very near full with an 8mm trowel, there is little sense in using a trowel with larger notches.

the fact is i am new, and the other fact is you are using the wrong trowel! sorry that a newbie has educated you. i would rather have a little bit of knowledge and know its all right, as opposed to having a lifetime full of knowledge and most of its wrong. sorry to have upset you wayne...
