What Tiles Can Be Used Around A Fire???

Hi there...

I have been to look at a job and the customer has an inset wood burning fire but it is giving off alot of heat and cracking the plaster above the fire. They have asked me if there is anyway that i can tile around the fire but i am not sure wat tiles would be tollerant to the heat, what adhesive to use and whether flexi grout would with stand the heat...

I'm sure someone will put me right if I'm wrong but high temps are used to produce tile so they should be ok. definitely a similar post a year or so ago, have a search danny. Welcome to the forums

Yes tiles are produced at High temps but I am unsure as to their ability to then withstand very high temps over a constant cooling /high heat cycle over long periods.

Italian fornacelias(tiled ovens/fires) tipically glaced tiles seem to cope with the heat but I am unsure of the base mortar????? which allows them to cope with 40+ years of Italian family life( main source of cooking and heating in the houses which have them).
They are beautifull.

Silicon is used for fixing tiles in areas subject to high temps though ive never done it myself.

What do you mean by tipically glazed tiles? Could this be porcelein, limestone... ?

They generaly tend to be a glaced ceramic usually white but occasionaly patterned, most of these fornacella are at least 50yrs old and are still quite common in southern Italy and are considered quite a thing to preserve if possible.
