Hello everyone, hope you can help !

A brief description...
Just had a new extention built, 7.5 by 2.8m, 6x2" joists (2.8m length) at 400mm centres with line of noggins running through centre. original kitchen 4 by 3m with 18mm thick floorboards, approx 1m2 of concrete where old boiler was.

I was planning to rip up floor boards and lay new 18mm t&g v313 floor grade chip board over entire area, with exception of concrete, self leveling compound to same height of flooring only about 3-4mm.

have spent many hours looking at lots of threads about over plying, hardie board, tiling straight onto floorboards etc

would I be better using 22mm t&g ply board and tiling sraight onto that, or 18mm ply with 6mm ply or hardiebacker, joists seem pretty rigid, I don't want to much extra height.

What adhesives and grout should I use, I have settled on 40.6 square honed and filled traveltine tiles from topps. total area abou 30m2

I have done tiling before, but only small floor areas and used unibond tile on floor straight onto sound screwed down floorboards, but I can appriciate this is a whole new bal game:lol: sorry poor pun!

thanks in advance for any and all advice, have a limited budget as well !

hi mate. personally i wouldnt tile over any floorboards or even on to t and g chip board. Whatever u replace the floor with i think it would be best to use backer boards. if u dont want alot of extra height on floor then use the 18mm t and g boards and then lay 6mm backer boards screwed at least every 300 centers. I would then ues a single part flexible floor tile adhesive pref white for the tiles u have.
If u do the prep work properly u will be much happier with the job when complete.
Last thing u want is probs when u have finished and have to re do bits, or worst case take it all up again...
