yes i noticed before on the forum people with lots of work on, and there were a few with not much on, and with various things I've noticed its deffo droping like a lead balloon ,OK some have other strings to there bows but there still building trades ,i was just wondering what guys with mortgages, children, bills to service, would do if we do end up say 85% of the tiling industry in ruins as regards working and making a living :thumbsup:thanks guys

I can draw/paint freehand cartoons, done a hospital, loads of private houses and nurseries, as far as i know, back in '98 i was the only person here who had been served a writ by Disney to stop me painting.

Not bad around a bit of wood either or a paint brush decor' wise.

When i found tiling i sort of found my niche workwise. I enjoy every day i'm working.

i quite often get work with my old man to if there's a a few quiet weeks,he also asks me in advance to leave dates free to help him with extensions etc so i don't really need to burst a gut finding extra work, nowadays i don't advertise and i am not too far away from being able to fill my diary all year round with work(but then again, the old boy gave me a lot of contacts:smilewinkgrin:)

I'd still be doing the plastering, dry linning, rendering and screeding but it's still building work which there seems to be a lack of at the moment.

If things don't sort themselves out this year may have to look at options.

I don't have kids at home, just rent my house and my outgoings are less compared some of the other guys with morgages.

I’d like to run an adventure motorbike tour company taking bored executive bikers to places where English people get murdered if they don’t sleep in the right place with their backs to the wall (that would be my sales edge – ja ja I know – my insurance might be high).
I’ve ridden a motorbike across the alps and over the desert and got myself stuck in trouble spots in the back street of China and Mexico – I have no reasonable idea of my own limits and limited common sense, I will do anything for a laugh especially if its slightly illegal. If you can ride a motorbike and have much more money than sense then ping me – you could my first casualty, errrm, I meant customer.

Well as my forum friends have answered seriously I guess I should. I actually would like to run adventure trips, I’ve done a bit of that self organised and have travelled the world doing it. Cant see much money in it though. Right now I am building houses and tiling after running a major part of a large electronics company for many years. I don’t ever want to go back to working in an office (my background is high end engineering but when you get promoted and have 20 managers reporting to you then you get to push a mouse around Excel 24/7 … great!) but its been hard to resist as headhunters call me and both property and tiling are massively hit by recession. So in effect I’m already doing the things I’ve dreamed of during many hours of sitting in airport lounges. If property and tiling doesn’t work out I wont go back to the electronics industry I will probably emigrate and start a new life in property and tiling (and possibly start the adventure thing once financially secure) somewhere with a better economy and weather. I’ve already discussed this with my partner who’s really up for it. I have two sons, one is first year at college studying science and the other first year at uni studying civil engineering, I don’t want to upset that right now so I will give my business ventures one more year – then if its not working out – I’m off!
… this sounds really sappy – but ref my presence here; I genuinely enjoy working with ceramics, stone and anything related, even though it doesn’t pay anywhere near going to work in a suit each day. I know you’ll find that hard to believe.
