What would you do?

I'm going to tile this at my flat, it's the front door & I've framed it & stuck 18mm ply to it.
I haven't tiled to ply for ages & was wondering to either tile to it direct or stick Hardie on top & tile to that.
It's inside a landing/close so never gets any weather affecting it.

For the cost & how quickly it can be done (& piece of mind) I would overlay it personally

What tiles are you using? A split face would look great there

I would just prime a couple of times and tile straight on top if it was me mate :smiley2:

It will be fine primed and spf'd as long as it's well screwed.

I'm going to stick white metros to it & grout with grey, looking for a public "Toilet" look.
I've got tons of tiles in the garage, could even stick mosaics to it but I'm planning on selling a few boxes of those.
Think I will stick Hardi over the top as it will only take me half an hour extra.
Using weber spf, not rapid, as I don't want to rush myself!!!

I thought about that TJ, it's only a rental property but I like to keep it nice.
It was four glass panes behind that plywood & you could read the back of the plasterboard that I used inside the flat, it's done my nut in for years & this is me just getting round to it.

Overboarding it seems a bit over engineered to me. Metros on a small section of well fixed 18mm vertical ply will last for many years if done correctly.

Or, you could leave over boarding and see what happens over time. Be a good test of tolerance mate as you will see it every day

Job done. Ended up sticking Hardi before tiling.
