Porcelanosa Oxiker Negro 44cm x 66cm x 11mm. Matt & rectified

Porcelanosa have suggested their products (Butech?)

adhesive
Ply first then use 5 x [Rapidmax 20Kg grey @ £20 with flexible additive 1L @ £8.45]

or

8 x [Tile to wood adhesive 7.5ltr @ £32.43]

I'd originally thought 18mm ply and use a 2 part flexible adhesive to be safe. Is that overkill?

Previously tiled 2 small bathrooms with ceramic tiles used dunlop waterproof, bal and wickes tubbed gear. Never used bagged stuff before.

I don't need to walk on/grout within hours. Kitchen isn't being used at the moment so it can sit for a day or 2 before grouting.

Considering I'm a novice and will likely take my time (slow) would you suggest any other adhesive or go with one of the butech?

thanks

would screw down 18mm ply at 150mm interval for this,if you have a trade account with topps you could pick up 20kg bags of toppfix flexible for £10 a bag which would be suitable once plyed!

Thanks.
Unfortunately I don't have a trade account with topps. I'd need to purchase online / retail.

Also as it's an old sandstone victorian tenement flat I was thinking a 2 part would be safer bet maybe use 12mm ply. But think I'll go 18mm at 150mm centres and a spf do I need a flexible additive? Also are fast/rapid set required for the size/weight of tile or just to allow you to work faster? As I said I'll no doubt be going slow so need something with decent bucket time.

thanks again

18mm and a good single part flexy will suffice, you don't add anything further to an already modified adhesive. Rapid set stuff is only relevant for speed or if you are using porous stone as it reduces the amount of time the the tile is in contact with moisture. Mapie do adhesive that would be suitable and have 8rhs bucket time. Check out their Keraflex adhesive. 8hrs bucket time and grout after 24hrs.

Ah I see the butech rapidmax isn't a spf that's why it needs the flexible additive.

As it's porcelain and I'll be taking my time the keraflex sounds ideal.

Just need to source it now.

£6.69 per 5kg from screwfix seems ok? I'm in Glasgow do CTD or anyone else sell (non trade) cheaper than £26.76 a bag?

B&Q sell "Buildfix Single Part Super Flexible Adhesive Grey 20kg @ £22" by Mapie I've read it's the same stuff. Is it? Think I'll just pay the extra for the genuine stuff.

Thanks again for all your help.

Now I need to buy or hire a manual cutter for these 660*440*11mm porcelain. I'll post that question in the relevant forum though.

CTD in Glasgow would deffo be you best port of call, they may even have a cutter you can hire. Tell them Tilersforums sent you, you never know you may even get a bit of discount!

What's the reason for this Pete?
because standard set can allow to much water into the ply where rapid set drys a lot quicker saying that we used it years ago when we used to seal timber before we tiled to stop the water problem but most tec departments tell you to use rapid inc bal ardex pci ect :pete
