HI got my first job to do its not huge about 6 sq metres of ceramic tiles 310 x 450 mm in a bathroom.

I have topps rapid set flexible adhesive and the tiles are biscuit backed with a red backing , however the tiles are a light stone colour.

Im laying down 12mm ply and need a Primer.

Questions.

1. Which Primer as it doesn't recommend any on the bag.
2. I understand I prime the reverse of the PLY ? Why is this isnt marine ply non porous?
3. The Topps adhesive is grey so will I need to butter the tiles?

Thanks in advance

Ken

No, marine ply isn't non-porous, it is just more stable when in contact with moisture than normal ply. It will still expand and contract of course which is why the back face, and edges need sealing before laying to help the board's stability.

You may not need to prime the tiling face, BAL adhesives are like this, but I believe that Topps adhesives are made by Palace so maybe a quick check of their website might give you the info regarding priming.

You don't need to butter the tiles just because you are using grey adhesive and ceramic tiles. However, back skimming the tile will help to give you a better coverage of adhesive and you need to have 100%.
