Which tools to use for fixing unsound walls ?

Hi all,

Was wondering what arsenal of tools do you use for fixing unsound walls, ie sorting out deviations or wavey corners ? Or do you all whack um on and hope for the best :lol:

sorry mate . have read this post 3/4 times what are you on about??:yikes: ya we just whack the adhesive on the walls then whack the tiles on then get paid and hope they dont come off :nonod::nonod::nonod:

If the walls are out then break out any high spots or scrape them to try and level, if the tiles are light ones perhaps a reskim

really just depends how 'out' the walls are

As whitebeam said perhaps a reskim or even re bead the corners if they are bad.

As for tools, mostly a hammer and chisel and a decent plastering float. It they are stud walls with a bow in them then a strip back and sort out the dodgy studs. You can add a new stud along side a bowed one fairly easily. Drill/driver is all thats needed.

Preparation is paramount on all jobs, I would not dream of starting tiling, if I was not 100% happy with the shape of the walls/floors. If I prepare a job myself, then I know the finished product will be spot on.

How about a large Darby for filling out large deviations maybe a corner trowel to re bead , any other tools I could be needing to make life easier ?

And yes the whack um on was a joke, glad you all spotted that.

Are you trying to buy the tool you think you will need before you start? If so i would just buy them as you go, i buy tools all the time and some i have only used once or twice since i bought them!

Yeah i'm only tiling now and then so was wanting to go out and buy tools for prep work, not wanting to buy loads just the tools to get most of the problems solved before starting.

Darren at NETT pointed out he used a Darby about 2 foot long with two handles to get deviations out of the walls so I was wanting to know what other tools can easily sort out problems you all encounter with walls. My latest headache was the wall corners drifting in and out but I had no experience with dealing with this, I will be asking the question though soon in the forum.
