agree with tony point here. we only want the best for our kids and them to be happy. the one thing our trade has against us to my mind is that there are potential problems with knees /backs that can occur early on or during middle of our careers. if we were paid really well like some specialists then this could be factored in to early retirement. reality is many have to choose something else or more probably try and set others to work for us in our field.. carpenters for example do not have the same problem i think and and continue longer for the most part than tilers in their chosen profession.
so for my six year old son i am not encouraging him to be a tiler.

Time's Ran Out

Little John has been tiling 13 years now and although he looks like he just finished school and people think he's on his holidays, he can actually do a first class job (he rarely comes on the forum so I can tell a few tales). Yesterday his customer told me I must be very proud of him and how pleased they were with his work! I was very pleased we got paid and happy to be finished early for the CTD Xmas party.
When I took him away from school at 16 to go to college for Tiling he didn't want to stay and insisted he'd learn more with me - well we both got our NVQs a couple of years ago and he has a skill that will enable him to work anywhere.
