My wife is a welding lecturer, coded to asmy 9, she used to specialise in stainless when she was doing turbines.just another string in my bow doug. started the tiling because of the dangerous gasses at the welding. sat my tiling exam at westlink tile training with Jim manning tile contractor , a brilliant teacher sent me into booth with sink pedestal and toilet told me to lay out tiles and start , when i finished he offered me a job and that was me. Still do the odd welding work,, when needs must doug.
i used to do a lot of steelwork, on site the mig is no good as the gas will blow away, we always used arc on sitewife says, " nice to hear that peeps are still welding structural steel with stick rather than MIG"
just drink a glass of milk before you put your screen on , that's what the old welders used to say :yikes:the stick is a far better weld doug than mig , If you were to take your exam today in welding it would still be done with the stick,, but gasses are highly toxic especially ferrous metals .
I am doing a school entrance in Ayr using a 600x600 tile and a 1200x600 and a 200x600 all laid in a special patter so hopefully get some pics uploaded
funny subject this coming up tonight, i've been offered a job in holland for a guy i've been tiling for, only a short contract but his lads are taking a grand a week home. i'd love to get back into the steelwork again (and the money)youre rite mike, used being the correct term. milk puts a coating on your stomach which helps when youre welding galvanised metal..
we used to grind it off, better for welding and no fumes (and as doug says wear a mask)apparently, galv gives off summat called metal fume fever, wear respirators and use extraction where possible,,,(Lou's words not mine)
i said i'll do it, given him a copy of my passport, cscs card and drivers licence, he's filling out a e101 form for me (whatever that is)There seems to be a lot of work in holland at the minute mike, Iwas offered tiling work out there 650 house and healthcare package a week . it was euros but.
