i had never tiled before when i started my nvq last september.

i learnt more myself when i did a kitchen on my own.

different world out there from the small square cubicles in college!!

And what course did you do?

its a certificate to say you're Not Very Qualified

That comment will not help anyone, these things are there to help not hinder. I have the certificate, I did it because I would rather have it than run into problems later when it will be too late. I also have 20 years experience so I would say I am plenty qualified. Roll on when tilers need to be licensed to do domestic work.

i did the nvq level 2.

dont get me wrong, i now know how to tile after doing the course!!

its great to have the certificate for it!!

but you def learn more out in the big bad world. like all the probs you run into while tiling ie damaged walls, uneven floors etc.

as in the college the walls and floors were square and even.

Why was it a waste of time?

It was a waste of someones money not time (but probably that aswell)

I was working as a tiler, was then told needed an NVQ to get a cscs card to allow me onsite. So initially, before I knew there was funding, I was told it was going to be close to £700 after vat to get it, plus the cost of the H&S certificate. So Im busy saving for this, and then I realise there is funding available. But in any case, a guy came out to me, made me fill in a whole ream of paperwork that didnt really apply much to actual tiling, took 7 photos of me in various positions (oo-er missus!) and I get a certificate.

Didnt witness me tiling and £100 per staged photo = an NVQ? Waste of someones money.

BUT, not really a waste of time, because funnily enough I need it to get onsite.
