Why do we overboard ply (to be tiled) floor

Hi all,
I will be doing a job for relative soon which consists of a bathroom floor.
its a reasonable new house (6 years) The floor is a laminate on wood at the moment.

I would be priming then tiling with Weber SPF.
should I reboard & why?

i have removed tiles from 6mm ply that was tacked to floorboards..and tiles tiled straight onto floor boards...and they were down for more than 20 years and christ what a nightmare to get up...they were down good and proper...so there is a std the guys on here expect..but always makes me wonder how those tiles i lifted given the recommendations on here were stuck so fast !!!

as in what the chaps on here suggest..ie overboard with a cement board or similar.. i do all the time now just to be sure.

it's unlikely you will find a ply floor under that laminate anyway

Prime ChipBoard & glue & screw Hardie Backer 250 (6mm) onto it & tile away.

Make sure there is no deflection (bounce) in the floor as when you are at that stage you could lift the floor & put in extra dwangs to strengthen the floor.
