That tiling for a living we get -stuck-in , but when it comes to tiling at home the motivation just disappears  ?

Fully agree with the above. I love it when your in the middle of a job & it's coming along nicely & the customer says "I bet your house is beautiful" lol

I did my bathroom last September and must admit it took some persuasion from my wife to take time off work to do it.

Now it's done I'm really pleased with it, cost a small fortune, 3 good holidays.

Once I got started I was really into it, and I didn't have to pack my tools up every night either  But it is about self-motivation to do work on your own home. I just treated it like a job for a customer and then gave my wife an invoice

I've had 3 customers round to look at it and got jobs from all visits so well worth it.

It's not that I don't have the motivation, it's the time for me!

Thats what is was for me as well, my wife booked the 2 weeks in my diary months ahead so I didn't put any customers work in that slot and it worked.

Well i think its a money thing for me to,no dosh no interest ! that s bad !!!

when I have got money got no time..... when I got time I have got no money.... when i got them two together I will do it :8:

I can honestly say that i tiled our bathroom at home and it is probably the worst job i have ever done. Lippage, sort of brickbond, it was lashed up in a couple of days. The wife said to me i hope you don't do this rubbish for customers. It would be a contender for the show us your bad work on here.

Started my downstairs toilet at the weekend, it's tiny and I've been putting it off for 2 years. Ripped it all out and got the floor down, time to see how long I can get away with leaving it like that!!

lol...same as my wife, got so fed up with me saying i'll do it, she booked it in me diary..

My problem was more about which tiles to have. We'd see some one week and then a new range would come in at another of my suppliers and we'd change our minds. Good thing is we both like the same things so that eliminated the arguing over colours styles sizes etc

my problem was, i couldn't be a$$ed...

Was discussing this with my mate today. The truth of the matter is....we cant really afford ourselves, its a lot of money unless you have no work

Definately hard to get the motivation, and all depends on how many half bags of adhesive you have in the garage.

Done my hall first, was a first class job with plenty of features and mosaics. Bathroom had quite a few travertine borders and boxed bath panel etc but didn't take too much care with lippage etc as I just wanted it done. Kitchen was cheapest end of line in the tile shop and basically stood at the back door and threw them on. Worse and worse, wouldn't dream of leaving a customer's house like that.

Trying to move house at the minute and keep telling myself that the next one will have plenty of 1200x600, Porcelenosa Woodtec and stone bathrooms, but realistically it'll probably be B&Q 12x12 if it ever gets done. Know a few tilers who just get other tilers in to do their houses to make sure they're done.

Suppose it's the same as any job. A mechanic will never service his car and an accountant couldn't tell you how much he has in the bank.

my Mrs loves telling everyone how long it has taken me to tile a wet-room, its been going for two years :yikes: so far and its still not finished ,whenever theres a ding-dong she brings it up !!lol and i think if you keep -on at me it might take another two years yet mrs

tiling my bathroom next month as i have to to get the conversion signed off its been lying doorlocked for almost 2 years lol

am i motivated am i REMOVED lol

I hate it, it took me 4 months to mosaic the bathroom, then I had to get one of the lads in to grout up, and now I hate it. So its all got to be ripped out again. Lets not even talk about the splashback in the kitchen.....ummm did someone say tile on tile...yes thats got to be ripped out as well.

its always a nightmare doing stuff at home.
when your there , there is always other little things to distract you. a 2 day job becomes a week.or more.
i think you need to do a labour swap type arrangment. i give you two days and you give me two days etc. that way there is a client and your working for someone else

Ive been in my flat about 15 years, Ive only done the shower area in the bathroom and just recently did the kitchen! Took me ages to find something I liked and could afford lol.
I have the tiles for the bathroom to finish it off but really cant be bothered.🙂

I really dont feel so bad after reading some of these posts. Almost 9 years in this house and havent got around to doing the kitchen....came close a few times but keep changing my mind on what I want.
