Will they stay stuck?

It's very hard to properly asses the quality of an installation without proper pictures. How did all this bathroom fitting shananigans come about and what else where the problems?

The result of fooling myself that I could get the work done on the cheap unfortunately. The leaky waste pipe work has now been sorted thankfully but it's been a lesson sorely learnt. Got what I hope is a good photo of the adhesive issue now and will upload tomorrow

At last - I've finally managed to create, after much swearing at various software packages, what I hope is, a semi decent photo showing how the adhesive doesn't extend all the way into the corners of my tiles - (300 x 100 ceramics). Hopefully this will be sufficient to show whether or not I have a problem.

30mins to remove one tile , that's stuck in my eyes

Hammer and bolster is obviously way quicker, but I found it wrecked the Aqua panel backing board and the stress resulted in glazing cracks on neighbouring tiles. If you do know a quicker way of removing individual tiles without causing damage though I’m all ears. Cheers

ooh golly - apologies Widler if my reply came over at all bolshy - it genuinely wasn't intended to, sorry mate!

I found that the multi tool allows you to get all of the addy off too, right flat with the backing board without causing any damage – just takes a blimmin age for each one though.

The tiler has been booted for dot and dabbing tiles ? you are now trying to remove them ? if they are stuck using the improper fixing method and are not coming off easy then get the tiler back to grout up and pay the man ?

correct me if im wrong !

Cam-low, to explain in more detail, the bloke I had was on a day rate, so has been paid for all the work that's been done, including the shoddy waste pipework that I've now had fixed at my own expense. The plastering and decorating work that he did wasn’t up to scratch either (yes, I know I was asking for trouble thinking one person can perform all of these tasks to a decent standard), so instead of take him to task and take a further risk that he can come up to scratch with the remaining works, I’ve decided to put this one down to experience, and vow only to deal with specialist trades from now on (or learn to do it myself and accept the standard I can achieve) rather than get burnt again. To be fair, the tiling that he carried out doesn’t look too bad, but due to the wastepipe leaks, I’m now worried that anything he’s done could be iffy, and want to make sure things have been done right, and at no risk of leaking, before progressing with finishing work and grouting.

So, before I get a proper tiler in to complete I want to arm myself with some expert impartial advice as to whether the tiling shown will be at increased risk of leaking. I’d rather remove now and do it properly than face a problem 12 or 24 months down the line.

There looks to be good coverage on the walls. If they are all like that then the grout should fill the gaps nicely, then seal the grout with a sealer and ensure there is a good Silicon seal all around the shower. If this guy has done all of you plumbing then you should also run the shower on cold and see if you end up with any leaks. If you really do not trust him then get all the tiles off and get it checked out and reboarded and retiled.

Do you think it would harm to try and squeeze some more adhesive as far into the affected joints and into the corners as possible before someone comes in to do the grouting?

Thanks for everyone's replies on this. It sounds like the grout should perform the task of sealing the wall, and the adhesive gaps around the tile edges won't present any additional risk of leaking.

This is great news for me, but does make me wonder why anyone would ever bother with tanking walls? Can anyone explain whether a really solid grouting job makes wall tanking unnecessary?

Grout seals the joints but it's only water resistant not waterproof, as most showers tend to be power versions theres alot of water going into the shower area.
