Window Ledges

All,
I am started tiling with my travertine tiles and am wondering which is the best way to approach the window ledges.
I have already decided that I will be using a butt joint for them and then chamferring the top edge off.
Should I be laying the "ledge" down first and then measuring and cutting the vertical tiles up the wall to the ledge after or should I cut and fix the tiles up the wall (to the top off the ledge) and then fix the ledge tiles after?
Or does it really not matter? I am just trying to avoid having any odd sized gaps between the ledge and top row of tiles. I guess if I measure right it shouldn't matter which way. Am I right or are there any tips or techniques anyone can give me to ensure an ideal fit? I have a few external corners that will probably benefit from any similar tips/techniques, if there are any.

I tend to do the window head first, then the vertical reveals and the window cill/ledge last Daz. Don't really know why I do it that way, just habit I guess

Hey thanks for the reply! Can you clarify what you mean by window head?

the one opposite the ledge Daz,the top of the window.Typically you have four sides to tile around a window, two sides (vertical) the head and the cill (ledge).

Hi Daz, I always tile wall first then window sill after. Make sure all the tiles run flat and level along the wall, keep using spirit level after every fixed tile. If you don't do this the grout lines may not be exact when you come to do the cill/reveals.

No, my window has no "head" or top to it. It goes straight to the ceiling.

It was probably my explanation making it confusing. I wasn't actually asking about which order to do the sill, head and inside verticals. I was trying to understand how specifically to get the right levels and grout spacing between the sill and the wall meeting it (below the sill). It was probably my naff explanation .

CCTiling has given me the answer.

i tend to do the internal verticals first on both sides lineing through with the grout joints ,, then the sill ,, this way the weight of the tiles on the verticals does not make the sill tiles lift as it would if you do the sill first .. thats just my way of doing the inside of window

I tile the reveals first then the soffit then the sill for the same reason delite has mentioned the weight of the reveals will push down on the sill tiles and cause lippage if you tile the sill first then the reveals
