who said there was a fault with your work, if im tiling a window and theres a cut tile on the bottom of the reveal i always match the grout line up with the tile on the upstand of the reveal and i wanted to know if im doing it wrong. i was wondering why and what determined where the cut actually went on the bottom.

Sean,

The tiles up the side extend all the way to the window because they are rectangular, and therfore wider that they are tall. Thus the tiles on the ledge, and top of the reveal are not 'tall' enough to extend all the way back to the window, wheras the tiles into the sides of the reveal are 'long' enough to.

This would be obvious if the photo extended further up the reveal, but because it doesnt you cant really see what I mean.

That said, I have cut tiles so that the grout line follows all the way round the reveal, and have also done it as Deano has done, all down to the customer preference IMO.

If you think its wrong then I think you should have discussed it with Deano first, not just posted his photo up then openly invited everyone to find fault with it.

If it had been a photo of your work, then fair enough, but not someone elses, and certainly not without speaking to said person first.

Time's Ran Out

As I mentioned in post 2 -I think this window reveal is nigh on perfect and I stand by that statement whoever tiled it!
Sean if you have a cut at the back of the cill because the tile is over the width of the cill then so be it - but to put a cut to the back of the sides of the returns just to match the cill and head is not something I've ever done!
If that is the way you normally set a room out to tile, then that's fine for you and your customers and everyone has their own way of doing jobs.

What I find totally appalling with this thread is the misleading way that you have presented it using someone elses work without the courtesy of allowing the members to know that you were planning a critical review.

This thread IMHO should have been :ban:
