wine cellar

I have a customer that has asked me to tile a wine cellar, its on weighrock and is going to be held at 50-60% humidity, he has thought about cork tiles.... any suggestions? i thought about overlaing with ply and using detra matting but cork wouldnt need that .... would it?

are you talking about walls and floor or just the floor ,I am guessing you mean just the floor ?

is it in an actual cellar as i dont understand the weyroc on the floor ,whats underneath the weyroc? is it timber joists or is it polystrene?

I would use Marmox, glued and screwed.....

it is an actual cellar with a sump hole in corner and a pump taking out the water,he thinks the weyroc is laid on joists with a membrane under it, prob just a soil floor under that.

I tiled a wine cellar floor just before christmas, i had normal screed though.
Too much humidity can cause de bonding so be careful on all materials.
Even adhesive is meant to be worked in minimum of 5 degrees.

it was because of the de-bonding issue i thought about the detra matt, but if i glued cork tiles that wouldnt be an issue....would it?

Glue is a lot more moisture resistant for sure and a good way to go IMO.
Try to get heat in there when your doing it, it would help the glue and cork.

is the opinion then just glue the cork onto the weyroc? maybe put a 3mm screed first?

I would be a little concerned regarding moist conditions with cork

Is it a big area?
How about slate tiles?
Slate withstands some abuse from the elements for sure.

the area is about 20m2 would need to overlay weyroc with ply and some kind of matting if he uses slate?

I would do as you first suggested and use ditra but tape the joints with strips of kerdi, tile with a flexi adhesive I would probably use the kerdi to seal the perimeter and fit tiled skirting

Id avoid the ply and use marmox or similar for something moisture resistant first.
Ditra over that would be good imo.
The ply would expand in the moisture and is unsuitable for tiling on lately too(chinese).
