hi, dean ive recently just started out im using a vauxhall combo plenty of room for me had to board a bathroom out last week and still had enough room to get boards in with my tools in van i suppose the more tools you add to your kit the more room you want cheers rossy....

I'm in the wife's 206SW at the moment as my van blew up before my hols - its amazing what you can get in a smaller vehicle if you are pushed the drawback is I also do a lot of plastering and it is now full of cr*p! She is going to kill me!
I need a new one and am looking at a mid size van with the plastering work I need to get bigger boards in.

Go to homebase and get yourself a small tarpaulin. Costs about £4 and they really help to keep the back clean.:thumbs_up:

Have an estate aswell,perfect with the roof rack for any boards.No need to rush out and buy a van till you have the cash,some lads have got vans on the never never and put themselves in debt before they've even had there first job.

Cheers GG - I carry loads of sheeting but being a pillock I thought I'd only use wife's car for a day which turned into a week car now requires a major valet!
Seats - footwells - typical tiler/platerer sh*t just seems to follow me around!

Ive got a tranny connect LWB high roof which is superb but not cheap, my mate has an LDV Cub, which is really a Nissan Vanette and its a great van, high roof and roomy and very reliable and not an expensive van, only downside is they are a bit gutless.

Yea the connect is what I was looking at - economy has to be a priority especially when you do a lot of quoting jobs/emergency runs to wickes etc. - thats where the wife's 206 diesel comes in handy. I used to run a 3 litre auto bm which cost more to get to a lot of quotes than any profit on them!

i have an ldv convoy short wheelbase, ex high top...still not enough room..like a mobile shed/skip..i do plastering as well so its handy for carrying boards and the likes.

Renault Kangoo............Is ok but should have got the side door version.

Need something bigger now.........with side door. Backs going humping the stuff out of the back all the time

i paid £800 for my vauxhall combo taxed and tested of ebay, a few bumps and scratches but runs like a dream will do me for first year to see how it goes no need spending a fortune or going in debt till you know if tiling is going to work out..

picked up a scudo off ebay.Good size as supply and fitting so plenty of room in back plus two side doors. Plus if get fed up with missus,kids and dog, can always chuck em in!! :wink_smile:

I own a Vw T4 2.5TDi Lwb, took me ages to find the exact model but its class but I would say that as i've always been a Vw fanatic 🙂

My brother is a carpenter and just sold he's T4 and has just bought a Mitsibushi L300 for about a grand M reg and its great, 2.5D so lots of torque which is what you need for all the tools and hills etc.. smaller vans for roughly a grand i'd look at Caddys, then Japenese makes Nissan etc then Astras then Fords as there prone to rusting esp the transits!! imo

Vauxhall Combos seem popular, I've got one to, you can pick good clean second hand diesels up fairly cheap. great to start with. You can get loads in and with a roof rack boards are no problem.
