working away from home

I have a couple of jobs coming up where I'll be working away from home and wondered whether it was a general rule or not to increase your price because you're working away. I'll just be giving a price for labour only, they'll be sorting the accomadation. I'll be giving a day rate if that makes any difference.

Even if your digs are paid for youll spend more money working away.Are they paying for breakfast & or dinner ?

i would always charge more working away. as above you've got to take in to consideration food, diesel money etc

Working away from home can vary from job to job as long as your happy with the pay and cover extra expenses then that all that matters

I try not to work out of town, if I can help it. I had my share of that for many years, but if I have to work away from home, I like to be rewarded accordingly. As I'm sure we all do.

My days of working away are long behind me, but when I did, the contractor paid for accommodation, breakfast and dinner. I also got paid for travelling to and from the main destination. The rates varied for the work you did and came down to how good a negotiater you were...

As long as long as you at least make the same as you do at home and your main expenses are covered, your doing ok.....

Difficult one this, if we are working away, a 'package' is put together of meal and 'drink' allowances, a bit more on the day rate, and associated expenses. I always have a reserve fund put by, because there is always something that happens along the way. Whatever is left in the reserve at the end of the contract, is bonused. So my advice would be put a bit more on your day rate and make an allowance for your meals (and everyone deserves a bonus for a job well done, so put a few quid aside for that).

I work away from home most of the time, I get looked after because I put the effort in ( at least I / we do ) we get looked after accordingly, most of my work now is commercial so may differ from you, quote what you need / would like and see what comes of it.
