Was looking for some advice on how to approach a more experienced tiler with regards to working with and gaining more experience and confidence....

I am booked onto the NETT course on Jan 2nd and when I return intend a period of confidence building/practice on my own bathroom , kitchen and then plan to advertise for work.

I know a lad local to me who has stacks of work on and was wondering if it would be any good if I approached him and asked if I get any jobs I thought were too big/tricky for me at such an early stage would he be interested in them ???

likewise if he gets any small jobs he may not be too interested in or just too busy to take on would he be prepared to pass them my way????

I know some may think it daft to pass on the bigger jobs but I would rather take my time and get a good few smaller jobs under my belt and gain experience that way than rush into a big job and **** it up.

Do you the more experienced hands think that this is the type of deal he might go for or would it be a non starter????????

any help/advice from the experts would be gratefully recieved
thanks

The only big stumbling block here Lee, is that old pro tilers are wary to recommend folk who may **** up...after all it is his reputation on the line...a better approach would be can you labour for him and learn the ropes for a job or 2..to get your confidence up..he may be able to oblige......Gaz

Tried to pass some work onto a new tiler in my area today, a months work tiling kitchen and bathrooms for a council contract, i have worked for the guy who has the contract before and he pays you weekly, £20sqm all adhesive and grout supplied all within 15 mins drive for the new tiler, he said he had no work and jumped at the chance until i said £20sqm...p*ss off he said i want £30 metre I'm a professional tiler..only did his course three weeks ago..TWIT:stupid:

What a tosser.

Im fairly new still and Im still only estimating labour only at £20 psqm, then make on mats where possible to bump it up.

But to have only done a course a few weeks ago and turning his nose up at it, demanding £30, more than many who have been in the trade for decades would be happy with, then it's his loss and no ones elses.

agree entirely

I would have bitten your arm off m8, being new to the trade myself i would take all i can at the moment and £20 psm is more than a good rate for a new Tiler, i'd be well happy with that!!!

20 Quid Is Good Money And Is The General Rate In Glasgow,my Thinking Is That He Wont Last Long Enduro M8,knobhead.

Hi everyone

How many metres would be the norm to fix in a day on a contract like that?
