I was out with my metal detector at an old monastery a couple of weeks ago Gisela and got a signal below me at 12".
I dug down and came to a floor !! hard packed stones. Unreal as it's so old too.
I'm beginning to love digging up old items, collection growing every time i go out.

i been to rome (and the colliseum) twice, worth going back just to see the mosaic when it's exposed/restored

I'v was in the Colliseum 3 years ago, absolutely loved Rome after a very bad first hour in it(lol).
It's a lovely destination for a long weekend, very expensive though.

Italy is madly expensive isn't it, but I do love Italy, I must admit. Just feel at home there, like I do here, too, just in a different way. And Joe, how much of the stone floor did you uncover then? So exciting to find old treasure of any kind..

I only uncovered about a m2 Gisela, i was actually back there yesterday evening for one hour with my brother in law who is going to get a detector.
Yesterday in one hour we dug up- a used bullet shell, a very old coin(unidenfied as of yet), an unusually shaped piece of iron and what looks like some silver or aluminium rare shape too.
Fred on here finds a good bit with his detector too.
I have a coin from mid 1700's, 1826, 1897 and a few near modern,lol.
Pre 1930 pure silver spoons and forks etc(13 !).
It seems a great pastime and i'v only begun, digging up the past.:smilewinkgrin:
