hi, i am a virtually retired tiler (58), legs back hips etc etc.
a friend carpenter (65) has been renovating his attached barn for around 5 years (still works full time)
he has asked me to help him lay 200 mts, 20mm thick, all 500mm x 1.00mt, 900mm, 850mm down to 600mm but all @500mm one edge.
the screed is anhydrite liquid screed on wet ufh, been down well over year, system has been run right up and down, now at a steady 15 degrees, its been sanded and sealed twice.
the main area is at a guess around 130mts the rest is a hallway and 5 other rooms, bedrooms and bathroom.
my concerns are the mat is kerakoll biotex anti cracking matting, ive never used it, only ever used dural durabase.
the info states to put down mat with a 6mm notch, my concern here is will 6mm notch of adhesive cause bellying of the adhesive? the mat is very thin, just seems to me the adhesive wouldn't flatten out, hope that makes sense.
in the big area he has been told by the supplier he shouldn't need any expansion joints, "i don't agree".
my friend wants to try and lay them with me, (ive always been a lone ranger) but he knows i might not be able to work every day, maybe not after day one, I'm in fairly bad shape with regard to knees, back and hips........so he thinks lashing clips may be of some assistance to us/him, there doesn't seem to be many i can find that work with 20mm thick tiles, plus would they really be able to level up lips on a stone that size, (ive never used lash clips)
he wants a 3mm joint i don't agree, i had a 1 hour look at the floor and tiles last week and on checking around 15 of the 500mm edges there was some variation, the smallest was 2.5mm different to the largest, that's without checking if the actually square and not splayed.
all the adhesive and grout is kerakoll which ive also never used.
not sure of the supplier but seems quite a reputable company from Lincolnshire.
he is wanting me to do it as he's seen my work over a 20 period but he also knows i no longer have the physical capability i once had.
the floor is really flat, i could only find around 2mm difference max, with a laser on the big area.
any advice guys tia.
