Hi all,

In the process of getting our bathrooms done, and have received 26m2 of trav and upon unpacking it wasn't sure if it's up to the "premium" standard and "little to no filler" that was advertised, it's certainly not up to the level of the sample (are they ever!)

Any stone experts willing to weigh in on this? Are these worse than I should expect, or is this pretty standard for travertine?

Thanks!

That certainly calms my worries somewhat! I'll still be going after them to replace the chipped tiles, and the ones that haven't been adequately honed, but I was considering finding another source. Thanks Localtiler :)

You always with travertine get corners chipped off and rough patches on the surface here and there, it's a natural material, and a fragile one at that. I always measure way over to allow for damaged and heavily filled tiles

Yep, ordered 10% over as that's what was recommended, definitely more than 10% with chips, so I'll see if they'll swap those out and then should be good to go, thanks again for taking a look!

with travertine you should always back skim the tiles to fully fill any voids. It will minimise weak spots (not completely eliminate them) and increase their strength/wearability.

It's not great quality. I'd say it's pretty average. Same as Topps' travertine on a good day.
If you're happy with it - use it.
Premium travertine can cost a small fortune.
Be aware that if you use a colour enhancing sealer, this can REALLY darken the resin fillers, so I'd suggest you wet a few pieces to see if they turn out ok, if you plan on enhancing.
