Honeywell ST699 thermostat upgrade.. Discussion Thread

Honeywell ST699 thermostat upgrade.. Discussion Thread

I have a fairly old Honeywell ST699 thermostat that controls the central heating and hot water on a Worcester boiler. It is in an old farmhouse which has an airing cupboard with a hot water tank. There is also a separate thermostat located near the top of the stairwell.

I'd like to upgrade it to a wireless thermostat if possible and was wondering if anyone has replaced this model. I have fitted a Nest unit before, however this...

Baxi Platinum+ Combi Controls Discussion Thread

Baxi Platinum+ Combi Controls Discussion Thread

Hi,

To cut a very long story short, Baxi are offering me a Platinum+ 40KW Combi as an alternative to a Megaflo Cylinder that has broken down. However, they are not providing labor costs so I will need to have my own plumber undertake the works. This boiler will effectively replace a 14 year old Vailant EcoTec 637 System boiler which runs 21 radiators and a UV Megaflo.

A couple of things I wanted to ask about is what controls are...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2025! - From Plumbers Talk (formerly Plumbers Forums)

It sounds like 2025 onwards we will be building houses much quicker than we have been under Conservatives. I'll stay out of the pros and cons of locations and things but the general fact more houses should be built means there will be grants to train people soon.

So watch out for dodgy training companies who have salesman, or are based...

A leak I cannot get to! What to do in this situation!? Discussion Thread

A leak I cannot get to! What to do in this situation!? Discussion Thread

Hi All,
I've discovered a leak somewhere related to the cistern to a toilet upstairs which is hidden behind the tiled wall. I cannot be specific at where this leak is coming from, because the access to it is really restricted. Taking off the wall flush plate, I can get my arm into the area, and can feel that the higher pipe (feed pipe?) seems totally dry, but as I stretch around behind and under the cistern, I...

weather compensation suitable? Discussion Thread

weather compensation suitable? Discussion Thread

Designing system for building that is only used two evenings a week (3 hours each evening) and one day of 8 hours. Temperature set at 21deg with setback of 12 deg out of hours. normally would be recommending weather compensation. But with such little use, wonder if more economical to have normal room stat and programmer. cant see that weather compensation would be of any real benefit.

Toilet Syphon Discussion Thread

Hi All,
My toilet Syphon stopped flushing I had a look today and it's a Derwent macdee metro. One that you can remove without taking toilet to pieces. The plastic has torn. Tried taping it together for quick fix but not made any difference. Is it a case of just replacing the plastic out do I need a new Syphon part and if so can another make fit onto it or does it need to be same make. Thanks

Vaillant controls Discussion Thread

Vaillant controls Discussion Thread

Hi all

I have Vaillant 624 running 3 circuits; a Telford unvented tank and then 2 hearings circuits (downstairs & 1st/2nd floor).

This is currently all run with 3x 2-port valves in and-plan+ configuration with Hive controls. I did have LLH fitted which was removed about a year ago for some trials with a 637 boiler. Now I’m thinking about getting this reinstated but also upgrading all the controls to Vaillant to utilise better modulation and...

I'm Angus and looking for a new boiler recommendation please. Discussion Thread

I'd like a new system boiler to replace my old Pottterton 120L which is a 35KW boiler. When it worked it was a good boiler but I noted it cycled on/off most of the time, I assume because it heated things up quickly and then switched off whilst all that heat dissipated around 14 radiators. 8 rooms, 4 bathrooms. (probably half the radiators go off quite quickly when they get to (or are already at) a 1...

Weather compensation, low boiler flow temp & bacteria Discussion Thread

Hi all,

I've been adjusting our combi boilers flow temperature based on outside temperature. A sort of manual weather compensation. The weather compensation curves you find go through the whole flow temp range e.g. 30-60C+ what are the risks of bacterial growth below 60C? How are people with low temp heating systems & weather compensating systems mitigating the risks of bacterial growth? Does inhibitor & magnetic...

Hi all, all new to this breakdown life, currently waiting on getting on a training course, so just been relying on technical and instructions since I passed my oftec.

Unfortunately the new shower with narrow pipes & joints, splitter tap for fixed head & removeable etc. does not have the same flow rate as the old, actually now fixed head unusable, dripples & removable barely better but can be used. Use to be direct down the wall gravity fed. Parents house, don't think pressure ever great but worked OK.

Broken Sewer Pipe vs Clogged? Discussion Thread

Hi guys! The sinks and toilets weren’t draining and someone has told me that the pipe has broken and is asking for £13,000 to fix it, whilst I spoke to someone from Thames water today, on my way home from the shops, and he said the same issue (clogged sinks, toilets, etc) could be from a clogged pipe and that wouldn’t cost much to get fixed. The plumber posted this video of the issue but I can’t see any broken pipe.

That’s the video he...
