First post here, it looks to be the place to get the best advice for all things tiling!

Huzzah, after far too many weeks the end is insight for our DiY kitchen fit. This weekend I'm tackling the tilng, it's been 12 years since we did the kitchen in our old house so I've forgotten about all the mistakes I made then!

Anyways, I've just been looking at the setting out. We're using 300x75 tiles and I'm planning a 1/3 bond with 2mm spacers. Around the window cill is a pain; there's a sliver left, I've put a tile on a 4mm spacer but it's still not enough. I'm fitting plastic edging trim on the corner.

The only option I can see it to have them vertical on the run under the window. Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Jamie

If you had room to build the window cill up that could help

Thanks for that Allen; I could put a couple of layers of plasterboard down.

The window could do with replacing in the not too distant future, I realise it would have been easier to replace the window first but finances & the wife's desire for a new kitchen first got in the way of such sensible planning! Would building up the cill make fitting a new window a pain in the rear?

Cheers,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

Thats a pity with how close it is, try sticking a bit of trim in behind the tile sat on the ledge and look at how the gap looks, it may just be as thick as a grout line with that 4mm spacer under it.

What type of pvc trim are you using? If its quadrant you could get lucky with it providing enough height on the curved top when slotted in behind the upright tile

Thanks Tony, I've got some straight edge stuff. I'm popping to the local CTD place later, I'll see what quadrant profile I can find there.

Cheers,
Jamie

Thanks for the input chaps.

With a wet diamond cutter I'm able to cut the tiles nicely lengthways.

To save buggering about with buying plasterboard etc. for such a small area I think cutting two tiles to make up the height works.

Cheers,
Jamie

Getting there! It's a bit of a bodge on the vertical trim but I wanted a nice silicone joint behind the sink so I didn't bring it down to the worktop.

It's a reet pain in the arse doing some after work, setting up doing a bit and clearing up so the missus can use the kitchen!

Cheers,
Jamie
