Discuss Loose external porcelain tile in the Specialist Tile -Stone, Porcelain, Glass area at TilersForums.com.

I got some everscape porcelain tile from Topp Tiles last year installed externally. It was put on a bed of mortar and a few of them has now come loose. These are the ones that lips just over a few mm over steps down hence the movement. Others seem ok as they are pretty heavy.

How best can I stick them down to the hardened mortar without digging everything up? I have about 7 slabs that goes across the steps.

They are pretty heavy 60cmx60 format. I also have easy joint resin grout in between.

Thanks!

They have been fixed down wrongly , sand and cement isn’t suitable for external with porcelain and they will simply pop up with the freeze/thaw we have in the winter.. a screed mix with a slurry bonding of the tile to get a bond..

Hi Dave - im new to this so excuse the naivety. When you say screed mix and slurry bonding agent, does this mean, I can apply some cement levelling screed on top of the mortar then some SBR onto the tile?

Im trying to avoid digging up the hardened mortar. Will an adhesive do?

A quick fix would be tile adhesive , i was just stating the initial install was not done correctly for Porcelain tiles..
