If I go the plasterboard route, and never having done dot and dab...how thick is the adhesive layer when its done? I need it thin enough so I can get the board to line up with the old render. I know It'll depend on how uneven the blockwork is but I may be able to 'adjust' any wayward blocks to...

    Drilling Quartz tiles

Dave, I'd prefer granite, but the missus wants quartz. I see the quartz a lot on shop floors - the new Debenhams in Eldon Square, Newcastle, has a lot of the black quartz on the floors in between 1m2 format white porcelain tiles that cover 80% of the floor, and they look great when the light...

    Mosaics on green gyproc

I recently had a new shower room tiled and the walls including the shower area were lined with moisture resistant plasterboad. Previously the room had ordinary plasterboard. Feel cheated - tanking moisture resistant plasterboard

I went through the expense of installing (Knauf) moisture resistant plasterboard on all the walls and ceiling of my bathroom and now people say that I should tank it in the shower area. Why the extra expense? This is a shower above a bath, by the way. I am tiling from bath to ceiling and...

plasterboard vs 12mm WBP hardwood ply

My shower is a mix of plasterboard and ply But we spent just under £100 on a bucket of tanking so really would have been better off using moisture resistant mateirals to begin with. Did a stud frame and then used the mix of ply and plasterboard That's five years ago and I think its the...

    painted plasterboard

I never said it was, it was an anolgy I used to illustrate that just because it had "been done that way for years" that it doesn't necessarily make it right. Everyone has their own way of doing things and that is what the forums are for, to allow people to read the advice given by contributors...

...shower water, the 2 glass screens with a tray (not wet-room). I think we're going Porcelein on walls + floor. Ceiling will be moisture resistant plasterboard. The far wall (well away from shower area) is brick and plaster - im comtemplating just tiling straight onto that. Thanks in...

    Plastered Walls 20kg/sq.m

Hi, it's a shame it was skimmed in the first instance as plastered wall has a weight limit of 20kg/m2 but the plasterboard itself has a weight limit of 32kg/m2, so it would have been stronger without the skim. If you are just using plasterboard then it should really be tanked out to prevent...

Bathroom project, (only tiled once before)

Sorry Doug Not really certain what you mean, I assume that "Tanking" is some sort of waterproofing, I do not have a shower and was going to use moisture resistant plasterboard. But if you can advise that would be great.

You are OK using standard plasterboard in a shower area as long as you seal the tray to the adjacent wall and then seal the tiles to the tray. I know some of the guys on this forum advocate the use of either a moisture resistant board or backer board but as long as you seal the shower correctly...
