    Rubi Rubi nd 200

Had my ND200 for 5 years (bought from Dave at Trade Tiler). Replaced the blade guard and fixing twice, and on/off switch once (again from trade Tiler). Solid cutter. Used pretty much most days, motor is still singing sweetly. Only downside is splashing on floor.

    Tanking price

Yes, if at all possible. I usually fit this to the prep day, or floor tiling day. In a whole bathroom tiling, you can do at least 2 walls to fill in the rest of the day.

    Handmade tiles the latest fashion

A know a man who makes handmade tiles in Bath. He is a journalist at a loose end during the summer. And that's why handmade tiles are so bad. o_O

    Wet cutter

For me the Nd200 is difficult to beat. Mine is now 5 years old and with nearly daily use for 5 years it has proved exceptional value. I used a Vitrex before, and it disintegrated within 18 months with no spares or repairs possible.

    Handmade tiles the latest fashion

Here in Bath, there are some excellent "Style" magazines that are keeping some well-heeled folk informed on the latest decorating trends. Handmade tiles are now "en vogue" here, compliments of individual artisans, Fired Earth and Mandarin Stone (amongst others). Now, as a fixer, I appreciate...

    Tanking price

I charge £50 above a bath and £90 for 3 sided shower for materials. Labour is £40 for a bath and £60 for shower enclosure walls. I personally prefer to install Marmox boards (and Marmox waterproof tape for joints up to 1.2 metres above bath/ tray). Favourite tanking kit currently is Tilemaster...

    Brickbond

Excellent technical drawing Robbie! I am with the others here. Always worth checking for curvature before starting, show customer, and suggest options (e.g 1/4 or 1/3 overlap or wider joints).

    Herringbone Pattern

Just started my first ever herringbone tiling pattern. Can't be worse than an elongated diamond pattern, I thought. How wrong could I be? First morning, laid out pattern on floor, measured dimensions of pattern, then spent half a day working out how to make it work floor to ceiling (wood beamed...

    Brushed Limestone Free Length X 550 Wide X 20mm

As per reply from Julian Sidney, decoupling essential. I have just finished a floor using 20mm limestone in 4 sizes from 400x400 to 1200x800. 28 sq m, tiles laid in 2 days, but decoupling (priced separately), wash, pre grout seal, grout, final seal, had to spread across 6 days. I priced this at...

Levels !!!! Best And Worst ?

What you should be looking for in a good quality level is the deviation factor. A good quality level will show a variation of 0.5mm per metre or less. If you zoom in on the triangle marks in the photo below you can see these for the Stabila. When using these levels over a large wall area, make...

    Sigma or rubi?

Great fun watching this video again, but. What's the point? I thought the whole point was not to need to use slither cuts of tiles. In the Sigma v Rubi debate, it's really about personal preference. Both cutters are professional tools.

    Opinion On Bathroom Please

Interesting tale of woe. If Dickens had written a Christmas Carol for tiling, this story could have been it! We all make mistakes sometimes. The professional tradesman readily fixes it without too much fuss, at no extra charge. Hope you had a better Christmas saliboti and all the best for...

    The Merry Christmas Thread....

With the weather you are getting in the lakes area nobody is likely to believe in religion or seasons of goodwill this Christmas. Hope you live on a hill and keep the floods at bay. And happy new year to you Doug!

    Travertine Scratch

If tile surface is Matt finish then a fine grain glass (sand) paper will do. If polished finish then diamond polishing will be necessary. This can be time consuming and messy which will cost more. Prices cannot be given in this forum, but you could try placing a "tiler wanted" ad in the...

    Rubbish Removal

I am a licensed waste carrier, and I pay (about £110/tonne) to dispose of it. Waste disposal is highlighted in red in my terms and conditions and is clearly identified in the written quote, yet.... Every now and then a customer tries to get free waste disposal. Just like they sometimes try to...

How much do tilers charge? What's the price per Square Meter?

After a long time absent, I just tumbled on this thread. I think that some of the prices here are rather high. Ceramics - starting at £18 psm. Bathroom last week, 4 walls and floor, 25sq m; one window recess, 3.5m of pipe boxing. Walls using 600x300 ceramics in brickbond, and floor 600x300...

HMRC - Don't you just love them?

The Spanish lifestyle attracts us as much as the mild climate. We often fancied living there, but. We could not afford to spend a life sitting in bars and the recession there makes the UK look like it enjoyed a boom for the last 7 years. The summer heat is too much, air conditioning and shade...
