Hello folks,
Think I've just dropped a clanger - be gentle with me. Just had a small bathroom re plastered - sand and cement on 3 walls and 1 plasterboarded partition wall. All skimmed with multi finish.
Just found out that we can't now use large porcelain tiles(600x300) on the walls cos of the...
I'd appreciate your suggestions on preparation for tiling over my bath.
Photo shows the old bath. The new bath will be in by the end of the week. The soil pipe will be boxed in to the width of the bath using Aquapanel, and a mixer shower and concealed bath valves will be attached to it.
All...

Good evening.
I am enquiring about the use of tanking systems (such as those used with wet room shower kits) and plaster.
If an area has any new plaster can the tanking system be placed over once dry, or after some prolonged time ? Does it need sealing, PVA or similar?
Does the type of plaster...
Hiya.
In a few months we plan to rip the bathroom out and redo the lot. As I need the practice and want to get everything right, I am going to reboard all the walls with Marmox, tile it and get a plumber to fit a new bath suite.
The stud walls shouldn't be a problem. Take all the old...
Could someone help me with this?
I need to re-tile our bathroom which entirely covered floor to ceiling with 6" ceramic tiles.
There a two external walls covered in some sort of browning and the other walls are ordinary plaster board.
The browning is detached from the wall where the existing...

Hi all,
Really need some advice on how to tile my bathroom walls. Currently the walls have small 2-3mm thick ceramic tiles that are stuck on very firmly. I've been advised by the tiller that he can tile directly on top of the tiles. Just wondering what the best options are. I've been...
So, I went to a job last week that had been skimmed and it was terrible, the walls were shocking, could get your fingers behind the level. So, the plasterer has been back to rectify it, told him and the customer it needed boarding, customer just sent me these pics saying he's finished,

Bit of a quick straw poll here.
I still Polybond new plaster with watered down pva before tiling. Always have, always will. Who else does? Having an argument with a smart arse builder "who's been tiling for years" who says its not needed.
Your thoughts please.
Cheers :beermug:
Hi all,
I have bought a house built in the 70's. The one wall in the bathroom that is half plastered when it was 1st built. The bottom half is back to the bare brick as the previous owners for some reason decided to take off the plaster.
Anyway I know I need to use bonding plaster and a top coat...
Hi all.
It's been a while since I've posted due to 2016 being a very slow year, however things are starting to pick up now. It got to a point in March where I considered shutting up shop, but I'm glad a persevered with it.
It's been a while since I've had a job with painted plaster (only on...
Hi all
Please can you advise - I'm looking to fit a new shower cubicle in a recently converted outbuilding. One wall is masonry which has been plastered in the traditional way (bonding and a skim) and the other wall is 12.5mm moisture resistant (green) plasterboard which has been skimmed. I was...

I found my shower was leaking slightly as I was getting damp patches downstairs. I'm thinking a lot of this was due to the nature of the tiles (possibly slightly porous and all the edges were unglazed?) plus the grouting hadn't been finished that well I don't believe.
The missus has decided she...
Hi, I am taking tiles off my bathroom wall and all the old grey plaster is crumbling and coming off as well. The house was built in 1967. If I clean this off thoroughly can I tile on the breeze block underneath. If so would I need to prime it first and what with?
Many thanks for any assistance, Beez
Hi,
We removed a single row of tiles when replacing the bath and want to fill with different tiles that are deeper than the original and rest of the tiles. However the plaster is very sandy (or is it cement as 1960s house?) and some has come off so I want to be careful about not removing too...
Hi All
As above how do you remove 8m2 of gloss paint from a plastered bathroom wall(easily)
I can't steam it off(Even if I could pierce the gloss I would end up steaming off the finish plaster first)
I can't heat gun it off(see above)
I can't apply cheapo adhesive and dissolve it(wouldn't...

Below are two pics of one wall of my bathroom, you can see that the original plaster is still there. The plaster is sound, no sound of loose plaster smacking brick when tapping. Can I tile this? If so what's the weight limit? Though we'll probably be happy with ceramic up to 8 or 10mm.
The...
