25mm No More Ply

Been in to my supplier today and noticed a pallet of the above in 1200x600 boards. Apparently it is still under test so not yet for sale, but it will be suitable to fix on joists and tile directly on it. This would solve a lot of height problem issues between rooms. I've searched to find if Hardie are going to go down the same route but not found anything available in this country. What's peoples thoughts on this. It would certainly save a lot of time and save kneecaps!!!

I think the cost would be good to know. So long as it wasn't too much more than 18mm ply + 6mm cement board combo, it would be a winner. A good bit of time and screws saved.

I would think when you work out how much ply is, addy and cement board + labour that it's got to be realistically priced to be competative.

Never used NMP before, but 25mm Hardie would be damn heavy! Apparently due to H&S regs(on a social housing refurb) your not supposed carry more than 17.5kgs at a time!.......cue wheelbarrows and 2 labourers to carry a bag of cement!!!!!

Fixing it would be the main issue. It's alright glue and screwing to an existing floor but I wouldn't trust the fixings just going on to joists. So for me it's not really the thickness but how the fixings travel through the material without chewing it up.

unless they are suggesting you have to infill between the joists first but then what have you gained??

we'll wait and see

Good idea, what do you reckon would be a decent price for an 8x4 sheet? £40ish?

They would be 4x2 Pete, so 4 sheets per 8x4, and at a guess I think you would be looking at about £45-50 to cover same area, but that's only a guesstimate. On that basis I think it would far outweigh the ply option

Like I said Rob, it's still under test, but I suspect pilot holes would be needed to go through that thickness as the fixings would be close the the edge of the board when the joints cross the joists.
