O

One Day

Porcelanosa used to do fixers a favour, in as much as they would tell customers that the cost of fixing a large floor would be roughly equal to the cost of the tiles.
If a customer paid say 30/sqm for tiles, why charge 10/sqm for fixing? Tile shop would only reduce their profit slightly for quantity, yet here we have a situation where due to quantity, the poor old tiler is expected to drop right down to day rate rather than make a tidy profit.
If all tilers stood firm on this, we'd all benefit!
Trouble is too many tilers and too much pressure to win a job.

My plumber just had a similar problem, his customer had seen a £100 tap and that's the one he was going to get, plumber quotes £45 for changing tap and customer accepts. Plumber turns up to do job and customer saw another tap that cost only £35 and now wants a reduction in fitting costs pro rata with cost of tap. One word, idiot!

Why don't you read the posts and you would see the situation
I have read all the posts. At the end of the day if you don't value your own time then no one else will. If you do jobs cheap to start with then it's hard to ask for more at a later date, I understand that. It doesn't bother me if you do it for £50 a day, I was just giving my opinion like everyone else

I had a 350sqm floor on anhydrite.
I agonised over the price because the total looked so large but in the end went in at 25/m + materials and promised a perfect job.
Glad I did because it took longer than it should have done.
Issues around scheduling, other trades in the way, floor not as flat as should be...
I did ok in the end, but not as ok as it "should" have been....
Nothing is ever as it should be .

It's a funny one as I only do work for him on a slightly reduced day rate, often small jobs kitchens etc which I use to fill in gaps in the schedule so I can't suddenly ask for more on this one particular job!
If you work for him on a reduced day rate and you know you are not going to rip him off . Why do you need to know how fast . There is always somebody super quick who will reply to this . Not that this is super fast but once met a bloke who said any tiler should be able to do 15m a day like him . But after talking a little longer I figured he was doing 12 hour days.
