6mm ply and warm-up underfloor heating-best flexi tile adhesive??

Hi all,

Which is the best Tile adhesive to get?? i've have a concrete floor with a 6mm ply base which ive used evo to stick it down with. I've got warm-up underfloor cable to go onto this and was wondering which is the best tile adhesive or grout to buy??

Why put a 6mm ply on a concrete/screed floor

You are at a stage where you can really improve your warmup time. Speak with Aaron at U-heat and get the ply up and lay insulation board instead.
Then use a SLC suiteble for UFH over the mat or wire and use a flexible addy your tile shop recommends for the application.

To stop the loss of heat from the underfloor heating and the 6mm insualtion boards i had was rubbish

i cannot take the ply up now its too late everything is fixed onto it and i had underfloor boards but i wasn't happy with the strength of them I only have 6m to play with.

The ply could cause you problems later on, the cold from the floor and heat may cause it to move and tile failure. Check the sponser UHeat he do's insulation boards at a very good price

If it was me id kango them up and get cement reinforced 6mm insulation boards.

Its your call but it will make a big difference.

the floor temp shouldn't change that much it has 100mm kingspan under-it. so its already insualted

You have to heat the screed before the kingspan has any effect. ££££3

You will be applying heat directlty from the heat mat to 6mm ply! firstly this restricts the amount of power you can have in you heating system and secondly, ply is thermally unstable and will expand and contract a lot more than cement based thermal insulating boards, resulting in failure of your tiling surface!

But the floor is to be primed and 5-6 tiles have said this is ok?

As per Grumpy.

6mm ply will not offer much in the way of strengthening or insulation so seems a very strange choice.
What wattage mat / wire have you laid? You should not apply anything over 100 watts onto ply (fire hazard) which will not provide a massive amount of heat.

Take everyones advice and do the job properly mate.

Not sure what you think priming will do but if you are happy with the advice of your 5 or 6 tilers then take it. I personally would not tile your floor in the way it has been prepared...you would be knocking on my door in a very short space of time asking me to repair the damage that will be caused by it.
