A bit of inspiration needed & a question about creating borders

Having a bit of a problem choosing tiles for a bathroom.

We have accepted a quote from a tiler from this forum :hurray:

firstly a question about borders, in particular making them.

Can you cut a full tile down into strips to make your own borders or would the cut edge be too ugly to hide?
The other half is very keen on a split face tile feature,
we have found a split face tile that is 560x310 but is obviously one large tile rather than a sheet or border strip.

if it cant be done, then we would simply use it whole to define an area around the bath.

ill upload a picture similar to what we are going for and if anyone can make some suggestions as to what does/doesn't work that would be brill

colours we wanted to use are browns/creams/beige/stone colours.

There is really no limitation on what can be done with tiles regarding fancy border etc but it all takes time and a good tiler. I think you should consult the tiler first as he is in a much better position to give advice since he has quoted you and seen the job.

To be honest I've got a bit carried away, settling on one design, then changing it, then again and again, always finding a problem each time.

so, I've gone back to my original and basic design. :lol:
plus I know my tiler can do this particular design as I've seen examples of the same thing in their portfolio.

Are those tiles in the picture zamoras which come in a variety of sizes as in picture?

at the risk of potentially making that tiler my worst enemy... if you want custom boarders you could go for stone and maybe bull nosing the edges with the profiling wheel. maybe I don't know though I don't have any experience what so ever in that side of the trade

As Charlie says, there is no end to what you can do with a tile and a clever tiler. Just be aware that what your tiler has quoted you for the job was according to what you told him you wanted done so if you now decide you are changing the spec or wanting tiles cut to size etc then please let him no before he starts the job because it is a lot more work than you may think and he may have to charge you more.

just wanted to add that whilst we have accepted a "quote" it wont be final until the tiler visits
soon to double check the job.

but as for changing what was agreed, its very much stayed the same.

also, when it comes time ( mid may we've pencilled in ) I will grab some pics before & after!
