Know what you mean as a fabricator/welder in a past life I find myself looking at the steel handrails on the way to the lav and once there facing forwards checking out the grout lines and looking for slivers. I also liked the rubi because of the visibility of the wheel but first time I had to do angled cuts got pi88ed off liing the pencil lines up sought out the monti and have used nothing else since. Also got told buy a big cutter so got a 63 and would you beleive it first job was a 450 tile.
I then invested in a mini montolit great for kitchens small and greatfor cutting less than 10mm of a tile.

Hi Gaz - a Big Healey is on my wish list - very nice - your toy?

Hi fellow tilers

I tend to read the forum rather that post too much. I have recently finished a 4 week PTS course. I consider myself a much more experienced diy-er now than a tiler at the moment.

How long does it take to stop checking out grout lines and cuts when out and about?

My first job will be my bathroom, then the nieces and then a friends wet room - in that order. All free of course.

I have set up a business but it will take time to establish, plus it's probably the wrong time of year.

Tools? Agonised over cutters, but given the choice and after breaking thousands of PTS's tile in practice, I have come down in favour of a Rubi. Liked the TS for visibility, but prefered the TR for moveable breaker. For portability I would prefer something a bit smaller than the TR600, but everyone seems to be saying that big tiles are in. Couldn't fault the monty for cuts, ease of use etc, but as a beginner I liked to see the cut, plus I was getting quite good a curved cuts on the TR. A Bricolinna wet cutter will do nicely.

As for gaining access to the pro section - 20 posts? mmm could be some time. Pity that.

Keep up the good work

Welcome to the forums....

Any questions you may have now or in the future about getting yourself trade qualified, then please ask me.

Either PM me or post your questions in the NVQ part of the forum.

Good luck 🙂

It does take time to establish yourself in your area etc. Be sure to take in all the advice the course tutor gave you and register yourself on FindTrustedTradesmen.co.uk - Find tilers, plumbers, plasterers, electricians, builders, bathrooms specialists and more. and sites likes it (be sure not to pay for any - ever!)

You'll get some good advice about cutters in the tools forum if you check that out and ask the same question. And if you sign up for the BuyBrandTools.com newsletter you'll find there are some good offers in it which will help you out (can't give too much detail in the forum to be honest so just trust me on that.... the details are in the tools forum)

Keep up the good work
