Hello everyone,
Just registered after spending plenty of time trapesing through the forums on here- intriguing stuff.
Have to make myself stop though because it's all a bit much after a while, thinking about all the possibilities/intracasies of the job.
My main reason for registering is for some advise.....I have completed a tiling course recently (crash courses 1 week) and was hoping to find work as a entry level tiler. As most things in life this is proving more difficult than first thought. I'm in Rotherham, S.Yorks and there doesn't appear to be any advertised vacancies. I am willing to relocate for the right job anywhwere within the UK or Europe. I want to get some experience built up and am very keen to do so.
Failing this(and more ideally), It's crossed my mind to advertise myself as a tiler locally and hope the phone rings and take the plunge as it seems quite difficult to get a tiler around here. Obviously if the job seems a bit too much for me then i can turn it down....theoretically taking on jobs I feel confident with.
So I was hoping to hear some positive responses from people whio have done exactly this.
Or even some negative ones from people who feel this is too much like running before walking as I have heard all too frequently. But even these will help make up my mind.
I'm quite practically minded/keen eye for detail and have been a plasterer in the past.

Thanks for any responses

Hi there and welcome to the forums

Have you got a full time job at the moment, or unemployed.

If you already have a job of some sorts I'd recommend advertising yourself locally by getting some leaflets printed up saying who you are and what you do etc and get posting them door to door.
Get some business cards done and you could try your luck with tile shops and local plumbers, kitchen fitters etc and try getting some work in your off time, main thing just get your name out there.

For experiance in tiling, see if theres any friends or family that want any tiling work done to gain some more experiance and see how you go from there.

There's pleanty of people on here who have being able to fly from the start after a weeks course and many who have not, and many others who have started out tiling in their spare time to gradually build up reputation.

If you have plastering under your belt, and can achieve a good finish then advertise yourself as a Tiler & Plasterer and get 2 bites of the cherry that way.

All in all you'll never know until you try.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do

Thanks for your input fekin. I'm unemployed right now and have knocked up a business card but i guess fear is holding me back due to my lack of experience. Unfortunately no-one i know wants any tiling doing otherwise that would be a great start.
When you say get some leaflets knocked up and advertise. Where would be the best place to stick them up? supermarket noticeboards? DIY stores? that kind of thing ? We used to have a very local mag but it folded recently so that puts that out. There are the local newspapers that cover more area i guess I could put a small ad in them.
Only problem advertising as a plaster is you get people wanting big ceilings done and my arm isn't really up to that anymore, this is why i'm trying to move into tiling.
Thanks for your positive outlook mate, i need more of that around me.
