Hi guys,

Looking at getting into doing some geometric/Victorian floor tiling but would like to go on a course and see some done first hand before I tackled one myself. Have seen that Able skills offer a 5 day course for this skill set and wondered if any of you had any feedback or experience of this? Cost is about £700 which seemed reasonable if the course is good or is there a better way for me to go about learning the art?

Cheers

Over the past 10 years this forum has attracted some fantastic tilers / trades people and It's also attracted some cranks too BUT! of all the people who have posted, I can honestly say that there's only 2 who could be described as "absolute masters at their trade"

One is Phil Hobson
And the other is Timeless John

So when a person makes a claim about an area of tiling that they have not even done yet and a person shows you a piece of work like the above, I hope you all know which one to trust.

We are not worthy

I'd also want to know who was going to be training you and see a portfolio of their work. I've done a few small geometric jobs but could talk as if I'd done way more than I had. Doing a few jobs doesn't qualify you to train others. Make sure they really do have the correct experience to be teaching you.

I've even seen some "masters" of geo work make mistakes or take strange shortcuts.
It's not easy at all and is a whole lot more specialist than any other fiddly tiling job due to the set-out.

Try one - you'll soon see!

...for the record - Andrew O'Sullivan - AOS Tiling is extremely busy with geo work in and around London.
His are good enough to be photographed and featured in OS catalogues and he'll be the first guy to tell you how hard it is and how many mistakes he still makes!
