I have used both TAS Books software and Quick Books - both of which I would have no problem recommending, with Quick Books being a bit easier to get the hang of in use. Both are acceptable by accountants and the tax man - as well as the lovely VAT man!
In fact, thinking of that, make sure that whatever software you use is acceptable to the VAT man when he makes his inspection next, as it could be a real problem if it is not on the HM Customs "approved list" of accountancy programmes.
