Adding height to a step

Hi all. Started removing damaged tiles today from an outside step, found that there were tiles under these aswell. They were donkeys years old and falling to bits. Told customer they will all have to come up, he was happy with this but said he wants the finished height of the new tiles to be the same as before. The substrate is brick/cement and is sound. Have thought about adding a 20mm layer of concrete but has anyone got any other solutions that might be quicker?

your quickest bet would be to shutter it and use concrete/sand and cement as planned(easier and cheaper)

How long till i could tile on it?

you can use rapid set cement and it has a 3 hr drying time like adhesive!
best bet would to also put the tiles down with a sand/cement mixture after it!

Weber do a rapid concrete, a mate uses it on bridges

Go old school and lay directly into morter. soak the tiles first

My bro is a director in Larsen. They mixed up a batch of half rapid set addy and half rapid set motar by accident.
I got a pallet or two and given them a good home. Use them to build up floors and fill holes. I give the customer a good discount though!:hurray:

Just off now to shutter the step etc. How long shall i leave it before laying the tiles? Will be laying tiles in cement/sand mix.
