Adhesive Advice for Porcelain Tiles Please

Hi - Can someone advise please?

I am preparing to tile a bathroom with 600x300mm 10mm thick porcelain tiles. The walls have been prepared by stripping off the painted plasterboard and replacing with Wedi board fixed to wooden studwork.

I will be using Mapei ProFlexible adhesive and Mapei Ultracolour grout.

My uncertainty surrounds the thickness of adhesive to use. I have an 8mm square notch trowel but don't know if this is best. My wife would like the tiles laid in a brickwork pattern and I'm thinking a 3mm grout width.

I'd be grateful for advice on the 'best' trowel type to use, adhesive thickness and tile spacing (3mm?)

I have searched but couldn't find anything directly related.

Hello, it doesnt (in my opinion) really matter what size trowel you use really as long as its not a mosaic trowel obviously, because if you ar elaying them in a half bond pattern as we call it, you are bound to be building out anyway - unless your walls are super falt / smooth like a snooker table.

I would personally use a 6 to 8mm trowel and go from there.

Hi Chris, I would go with a 10mm notched trowel, a 2mm spacer will do the job nicely but it is personal choice, 2mm minimum for walls

6mm to 8mm trowel should be fine, dont forget to back butter the tile with the flat edge of the trowel this will ensure you get a good bond, 3mm grout will be ok, put 2 tiles face to face to make sure there not bowed, if tiling brick bond..

What thickness of adhesive am I likely to end up with? - I need to factor this into some calculations on layout (shower valve depth and trying to position my bath panel so that I only have a couple of mm step back from bath edge).

I'd use a 10mm minimum, especially with broken bond. 6mm doesn't really catch a tile of that size properly IMO, even with back buttering.

If your doing brickbond then place 2 tiles face to face to see if there flat.
