Adhesive Choice

Hi,

Looking to lay 600*300 porcelain tiles to a concrete floor in a new build. The surface is smooth so i would imagine this is a screed on top of the concrete

I am unsure on which adhesive to use and would the surface need roughened up to increase adhesion?

I would normally suggest a fast set flexible cement based such as Webber.
However you must identify what type of screed it is and prepare accordingly. Anhydride are completely different. You'd be better sending a pm to Ajax a forum member for his advice.

how long has the floor been down? what thickness? any under-floor heating?

How would i identify what type of screed it is, is there a test i can do?

Also, could i just prime the surface to take away any doubt?

As above, find out the type of screed, most important, Calcium Sulfate and Sand & Cement can require different prep work and even different primer/ adhesive.

Ditto all the other comments. Find out what type of screed it is. The builder should know. (He says optimistically)

As all above, make absolute sure you know what kind of screed it is.
If the floor turns out to be anhydrite screed & Cement based addy is applied directly onto it the cement will react with the screed & could cause a complete de-bonding of addy & screed
