Adhesive for Hardiebacker

Hi guys,

I am installing hardiebacker board on wooden floorboards.

Any advise on which tile adhesive to use under the cement boards?

I see it being mentioned that i need thinset mortar which i am guessing is an American term for Cement based adhesive. But could someone help me out in choosing exactly which one i need? It's a first DIY i am doing in a small hallway.

Also do i need flexibile or non flexible?

Would appreciate any kind of advice.

Thanks in advance

Screw boards down so no movement or squeaking, otherwise this will still happen once tiled.

The tile adhesive is primarily to ensure that there are no voids under the hardiebacker, so no flexing should occur. The boards are actually held in place by the screws rather than the adhesive / if nothing is moving ( which should be the case) then any cement based adhesive will do.

Use enough screws as indicated by the screw positions marked on the 6mm boards - HOWEVER - microadjust the actual screw positions to ensure that they don’t come a) on top of a floorboard’s own screw, b) too near the edge of a floorboard, which then may split.

I asked regarding which tile adhesive i need to use and flexible or non flexible. I am already aware of everything you have said.

Well bully for you.
In that case you will see that I answered your question in previous post - but you say you already knew everything I put there so I fail to see why you asked in the first place?

I fail to see a mention of any suggested tile adhesive or mention whether i need flexibile or non flexible.

Not sure what you're trying to start.

The information you've provided (i am already aware of) is clearly provided in Hardie installation videos. My question was regarding the which exact tile adhesive would be suitable. (In the videos it mentions American terms which i am confused about.)

As Ben said ..:any adhesive will suffice .. but I always use a flexible adhesive .. can be slow or rapid depending on your capability wether the sub floor is flat or not … just my preference… GW
