Adhesive type recomendation and thickness for 20mm porcelain outside

I need some advice on which adhesive to use and the thickness of adhesive bed required. I want to lay 400 x 600 20mm porcelain tiles onto some concrete steps I have made outside. I read somewhere that a 20mm bed is required but that sound excessive. I have 30 of these tiles to lay. Thanks in advance

If the concrete steps are dry sound and plumb you need to fix the tiles with cement based tile adhesive. Make sure you achieve 100% coverage, the minimum thickness of bed will be about 5mm. Back butter the tiles and lay into a combed rib using a solid bed trowel. Consider your edge detail on the step. 20mm factory finished edges are not that attractive, and the body colour of the porcelain will often be different to the top. Thanks for the help. I've actually bullnosed the fronts of the tiles. The steps are 6m wide. Out of interest if I wanted a 10mm solid bed what trowel would I need?

What does the temperature need to be and for how long? I've only just made the steps...I used concrete blocks and concrete behind to get the full width so I need to give the concrete a month or so yet. Thanks for your help.

Needs to be 5dgs and above for chemical hydration To take place and then further for tensile strength , the colder the weather the longer the setting time and a risk of freeze/ thaw and dedonding.

10mm solid bed will be difficult with a trowel. The trowel suggestion I gave would give you 5mm, so back butter a 5mm layer plus the trowl on the step will get you close. I am not sure the tilers on the site would agree with me though... I think there may be a more elegant solution.

If you trowelled the step and the tile with a 12mm square notch trowel it would give you roughly a 8.5 mm bed

We tiled a patio in the summer with 20mm porcelain used a 12mm trowel on the floor and 12mm on the back of the tile on 600x600 tiles we used biogel the concrete wasn’t the greatest so lots of grinding first to get it more suitable for tiling
