Advice on best trim to use??

Hi all,

Currently in the process of picking tiles for my new kitchen and was after some advice on the best trim to use. I've used the standard round profile homelux plastic stuff before in the bathroom but found it tricky to get a decent mitre for the joins, and I can't stand the plastic corner pieces they do (I took great pleasure in ripping them out the old kitchen - no way they're getting back in!!). I had considered not using any trim at all but not sure how I feel about having 'raw edges' on show as it looks a bit unfinished and un-professional. Having done a bit of research on here I see a lot of people use square edge trim and was hoping someone would be able to tell me of their experiences and what they would recommend?

Whichever option I go for it needs to be fairly straightforward and most importantly look good. My biggest concern is how it will look round the window recess with all the different corners and joins - if anyone's got any pictures of the finished product I'd be most grateful.

Thanks in advance for your help

There are a few option available if you don't want plastic trim. Schluter do a range of square edge metal trims, Homelux do chrome in various finishes, and you could mitre the tile edges where they meet!
A lot depends on the style/look you are after as certain trims can be modern and no trims can look rustic.

This the idea your looking for?

Hi trevortine thanks for the pics that's exactly what I was after. Can I ask what you used to make the cuts and how easy it was to do?

Sure, the cuts were made on a genesis mitre block with a hacksaw and tidied up with smooth metal file. Pretty easy to do long as you hold trim tight into mitre box. This one was kinda sore on the fingers as there were quite a few to do!

Hi katia, have you ever done any tiling before?, the pictures you see above are very good examples of what you are trying to achieve. It would be quite a challenge for someone with little or no experience in tiling to get good results like you see above

whatever you go for I would also advise to do all the cuts before spreading adhesive as it can get very messy if you have to keep making adjustments

I normally put all my trims on before i start tiling, the way you would with your beads before plastering, it just always made sense to me. If you haven't cut trims before i would buy plenty and just start over if you cut them wrong rather than trying to make the best of a bad cut, you'll be glad you took your time and re did any bad cuts a week down the line after its all finished

So if you have to build a tile out near the trim because your walls are out your buggered.....

Now, now Mark everyone has their own way of fixing trim.:sofahide: It's for the OP to decide/ask the methods available.
