Air conditioning in cars

Anybody knowledgable on cars? In my company Hiace and Mum's Merc when the A-C goes on, great. In my 1.6 petrol Avensis when I put it on there's a lurch like dropping from 4th to 3rd at 70mph. I can understand a little volts drop but this is really noticable in engine power. I'm hoping it's just because it's a relatively small engine for a large heavy station wagon but I don't know. Hope somebody can reassure me it's normal before I go to a garage and put pound signs in a mechanics eyes.

have you tried googling your question? I did this with my Volvo C30 when there was a grinding noise, and managed to find somebody in New Zealand who'd had the same problem and identified what to say to a mechanic to get it fixed.

it may be a common problem with the 1.6 engine, or simple the fact that it's an Avensis

I think it is probably fairly normal as it is a small engine. If the air con is working ok then I suggest leave well alone.

Don't knock the japmobil GRR it hasn't let me down yet, just gets me there slower with the AC on ;-) At least it works, been very hot this week, 30c again today, the snow seems a distant memory

You will wish the bathroom tomorrow had air con when you smell what i left in that toilet :lol:

Out of the cars I've had my Vauxhall Frontera will always been my favourite, had 2 Astras, good cars

the trouble with air -con in your van, is when you have it on, it uses -up much more fuel
