Hi ! There, I was asked to say it and I have. I'm a semi-retired engineer, now trying to augment my pension by doing installation and renovation work in the domestic market, on a very small scale. My wife tells me I'm a perfectionist, although I like to think I balance my desire to do the best possible job with a realistic acceptance that frequently compromises have to be made in order to control costs and timescales. Always been a practical hands-on sort, and count myself lucky that I can turn my hand to most things and make a pretty fair job of them. Starting with an engineering student apprenticeship I went on to be a laboratory technician, draughtsman, process engineer, and finally engineering services manager with a major electronics manufacturer. Electrochemical machining and explosive metal forming techniques were among the interesting aspects of my early career, together with work on wind-tunnels, both low-speed and supersonic, and precision machining.
Currently refurbishing my own bathroom, having done three others for clients, as well as two kitchens, hardwood flooring, rewiring, stud walling etc.
I hope the forums will help me find answers to the many questions which inevitably arise, by tapping into the collective wisdom and hearing the full range of opinions from other members.
