I 2nd that Gus turns out some cracking work

Cowboys in every trade.
I watched a bloke pebble dash a house near me,was a right mess, and after a year it's was thread bear(pebbles fell out, won't be right mix,no lime in it for starters) and the front had fallen off back to block work.
What did the house owner do,get him back to re render it ( and paid him) this time I watched him put It on and just rub it over with a sponge, then the house owner come out within a day of the 'plasterer'finishing it and painted it,it looks a right balls ,paint will be peeling off soon.
The bloody house owner is just as bad as the dodgy tradesman IMO,I priced that job but didn't get it cos I was to expensive .

I suppose it is passion for the work being carried out, this guy felt nothing for the poor tiles lol

stupid question, but why on earth would you get a plumber to do tiling? Jack of trades master of none, it aint rocket science. Never understand customers.

Hey Miss tiler steady on there. Ive just posted my congrats on you winning JOTM.
I'm one of them plumbers and also an electrician. I also have a science degree which took 7yrs to complete through the open university. so I am fully qualified even for your rocket science bit.
However I do tile but hold no qualifications :sofahide:

My theory on it is, they think the hard part is done, after all it's water tight lets just get the tiles on. Don't blame them as water can cause so much damage

Your point being?
Its quite simple really, if you need a certain job doing, eg Tiling, then you get someone in who's a tiler, why get a plumber to do it? I appreciate if customers have to sort out multi-trades it can be a pain, but in the long run it pays to get the right person for each trade.
I went to see a job recently where the customer had got the carpenter on the job to fix 10mm x10mm paper faced mosaics, plus other tiling. It was a total mess. How stupid is that? The whole lot needed ripping out. I felt like saying to him 'What did you expect?"

The only point I was trying to make was a bit of lighthearted fun, hence the hiding behind a sofa.
You did really did come down hard on plumbers who also tile.
I would agree that most plumbers should stay well away from tiling. But to say all I think your wrong.
I'm a plumber and have been tiling since 1986. My 28yrs experience, keeping track on the latest standards and tiling trends, and gaining recognition with my installation work been featured in magazines such as Chelsea home & garden to me is more of a qualification that doing a 6 week course in tiling to gain a nvq just to be classed as qualified.
I feel that my tiling is to a very high standard and regardless of qualifications in tiling, I would class myself better than most tilers who are qualified. I just think that your original comment was a sweeping generalization that's all.

Started to put this job right today and the bath was 30mm out so that needed to be refitted

Did a shower today shower tray fitted loose and out of level so annoying, if there is a problem in the furture who gets it in the neck first you guessed it.

Did a job for a mate of mine on a site with 14 houses he had to finish after the builder went bust all the bathrooms were finish tiled except one including tiled bathpanels , I tiled the last one and cut in an expection panel notice the plumber had not fitted any legs,my mate had to rip every panel off ,every single bath had no legs the baths were just sitting on the frames.
