any advice??

Hi all-newby here. I'm looking for advice on how to make an invisible(ish) hinged access panel on a tiled surface below the sink basin. Am using small 2"x2" travertine tiles and want the panel to be about 1 foot square- yes I know (now) that travertine is not ideal for beginners but guess I'm sort of up for the challenge! The bathroom is incredibly small(more of a broom cupboard in fact) so I was wondering if in order to save space the hinged access could also double as a small internal bin holder, which would mean it getting regular use. Any advice??

Welcome along to the forum. If it were me attempting this I would use a 12mm cement board as the door. You are going to have a very heavy door once you have cemrnt board, tiles + adhesive + grout, so will need some very strong hinges. I'm not overly convinced this will stand the test of time but, its how I would approach this task.

thanks for the replies. The tiled surface below the sink does not yet exist! I have just built a frame and was awaiting advice on the hinged door situation before continuing. Was hoping that I could just put heavy ply on it (its only about a square metre in total)

Welcome to the forum. I would just have a access panel which was not hinged. I would use cement backer board and create a panel that can be removed by using screws and caps to cover the screw heads.
