Hello peeps...

Been to look at a job today and customer wants me to tile around a round window, How would i hide the cuts? Could i tile the recess with mosaics or would it look stupid against 400x300 porcelain? Any suggestions much appreciated..

And how would i deal with this angle, would i just taper the back of the tile with a hand grinder?

Cheers peeps...

If they wanted the recess tiled then yes mosaics matched as close to the field tile as possible, or have a contrast.

In my limited experiance of such windows I'd have to trim it somehow, but im sure someone else will have the best idea...... Dave.... Gaz 🙂

Cheers fekin, No they don't want the recess tiling but thats the only option i can think of at the moment.....

Any other suggestions guys?

Jeez monty the only thing I can think of is that http://schluter.co.uk make bending machines that can bend profiles. I don't know if they would bend a trim for you or weather a trim could be bent to that degree but it might be worth seeking their advice. They do sell these bending machines but they are over £200 so it would be an extremely expensive option as I can't imagine you would use it regularly enough.
Failing that I think the old pro's on here must've come across this before so they'd probably be able to give you the best advice. Still I hope this helps!

If using plastic trim ,cut out a load of V shapes in the back of the trim tack it or staple into the wall and bend it round to match the profile.
Iv'e done it quiet a few times with out problem's.

took the words out of my mouth. loads of cutts on the back of the trim. Please post some pics when you have finished

Dural will hire the bending machine.

Why pay for a machine when you can do it for free ?
If your using plastic trim then there is no need for bending machines if your using a metal trim then no bending machine in the world will get the profile you want, unless you have the metal trim especially made.

do you know anyone that could make you a hula hoop type ring to go on top made out of wood/plaster/metal

god that sounds so stupid

Welll it worked for me in a number of Honda showrooms around the country. Yes it was metal and i didnt pay, the shopfitter did.

If you go to a plastic extrusions company, you will be able to get a length of PVC that could be wrapped around the inside of the window after you have tiled the wall.
I have done it a couple of times with arched windows, works a treat, and looks great.

Done loads of these m8

Stick 4 pieces of tile to wall around port hole top bottom left right curl the trim around the inside of the port hole long side of trim pointing and push in until flush with tiles on outsite then tack it around inside with nails.

When this is done cut strips around inch 1/2 of the field tile and fix these spaced as the rest of the room around the inside.

Mosaic has a tendancy not to work as the spaces close up as you bend it around.

Is "Jolly-colour" available in UK? That is a small bottle available in several colours; its like a lacquer made for painting the tile cuts with a little brush, approx. like lacquer for finger nails. Martin

Edit: Yes, is available. Its made for Wedi, I contacted Wedi Germany, you can ask Wedi UK where to get it from. Phone 0044 1706 647 333. Martin

Not sure about that Martin but, Humbrol make small acrylic pots of paint used for model making ( plastic planes etc ) in a multitude of different colours. Iv'e used these many a time, after application either varnish or clear nail polish for glazed affect.....Gaz
