Anyone use tiscali/talk talk broadband.?

For 5 days now my connection keeps dropping off.. i have tried all the usual things like filters etc etc, it is deffo the DSL connection via Tiscali/Talk Talk..

Anybody else have probs with this ISP..?


Who do you use and do you fully recommend them.. i have just asked for me MAC from Tiscali.. gunna move if they bloody don;t sort this..

ps... hoping this ends before DSL connection drops again.. :mad2:

I use BT Infinity Dave........ I get 27 mbps download and 6.8 Mbps upload. Had it for a while now with no problems so far.

I get 2.7 mbps download and 0.5 mbps upload..:lol:... beat that.. and then it disconnects..



I have been looking at the BT infinity.. and they say i can get that in my area..

With talktalk and have been for maybe 8 years, few bumps along the but in general been very good. It's free too well it's not free but for £24 a month phone rental, anytime national calls & broadband I can't complain. BB is 24mb package but actual speeds are 11 down 1.5 up

I would order it now then. It's the best broadband I've ever had regarding speeds. If I were on bt's normal broadband for my area, I would only get 0.5 - 1.5mbps download.

I have requested my MAC... will see how long that takes.. emailed them 2 days ago about DSL dropping out and no reply yet...

No good phoning them, as i all i get is an Indian call centre and that is major hard work trying to get them to understand my perfect north east accent.. and me them too.

Didn't think you needed the mac code to move to infinity as your going onto the fibre optic network. I didn't use one when I moved from sky

But i wasn't aware we had fibre optic here yet but when i input my post code and address they confirmed i could..? .. so we will see..


would have replied quicker but DSL went down again..

Some times it is only for a couple mins then other times it can be 10 mins or more..

They will have fibre to your nearest exchange box, then it's copper to your house, that's how they can give you the much higher speeds......

I'm with Sky, no complaints really. The exchange is only about a mile away from us (in a rural area).

My exchange is 1.5 miles away but you would think the speeds would be higher..?

Dave one thing talktalk did do which pee'd me off is they uncoulped my number from the exchange and put it on their servers, which means I can't move to anybody other than BT. I looked at moving my number to either O2 or Sky a few years back when they did upset me and that's when I found out I would have to take my number back to BT and then move it back out to someone else a year later.

I was going to really kick off about it because i'm sure they never notified me when they did it and the consequences but they gave me half price deal for half of my 18 month contract so just left it and took the offer.

So if you're looking at BT you'll be fine but you may have a problem if you're looking at other providers too.

i had the same problem with talk talk, i spoke to about a dozen different indian call centre operators each telling me they will sort it out,getting me to do various changes to the router settings because the problem was intermittant i didnt know if it was sorted till the next day when the connection was dropped again. i eventually insisted on a call back from their supervisor and on complaining i got a new router. problem solved.

Some peeps on the talk talk forum have said that anew router works but not long after it starts again..


Anyway in the mean time i have been on BT site online chat help with Carlos and he has deffo confirmed that my exchange will give me 20mbps + on fibre optic... so i have a better choice to go to..

anyone use infinity as well.. any probs.?

I got talktalk. I find the internet unreliable during the day. It is cheap though. I pay something like £15 a month for broadband and all local phone calls including line rental. The downside on the phone though is thatit makes it difficult to swap out of the talk talk system. I get maybe 1meg download speed here but i am gong to invest in a bt i plate to try and speed it up a bit.
